No matter where I am on the internet, I see something or another about the next great search engine optimization information or company. I truly believe that over 9 out of 10 web sites offering information are nothing but copied garbage.
Truth be told that your web site is useless without search engine optimized web pages. For instance, if the search engines do not like your site they will not show your site in the results sections of their query. This is known as on-page factors for your web site.
An even more important trick used for seo is known as the off-page factors. Search engines now are judging your web site importance by seeing how many web sites are pointing to your web site. This is known as backlinking.
This is fine and dandy to find web sites to link to you, but you are missing the boat if you just have everyone link to you. Below I will pin point out 6 crucial tips of backlinking value and how to find best web sites to have linking to you.
First we will want to do a search for a site that we wish to copy that is doing well in the search engines.
Go to google.com and perform a search for your desired topic you wish to copy. Find the web site in the 1st or 2nd spot and copy the name into the search bar. This time use yahoo.com and type in "link: domain name.com". Yahoo seems to provide more backlinks that the other big two search engines google and MSN who only report some of the backlinks.
Here are the 6 tips for you to use:
TIP 1: Value the page title of the web site linking to you. This is most important. If the title of the web page you have your link on has one or more of the key words in your web site you are given much more weight. You will want to look closely into your progressive link partners to see the title of the page your link will be on with them. This is done pretty easy buy looking at the results you would get from the above instructions. Those are the page titles that are displayed in blue from the results.
TIP 2: The importance of how many outbound links are on the web site that is linking to you
A web page can only have so much importance or page rank to it. The more outbound links that are on the web page the less your link to your web site will count. So if your web page is the only outgoing link on the web page, it is going to hold much more importance than a site that has many outgoing links on it. A safe suggestion would be to place your link on a web page with no more than 40 links per page. Much more than that and the link to your site will be devalued.
This type of work will require a great amount of time to do however. You will have to physically visit that web page and count the # of outgoing links on it.
TIP 3: Value the content of the page that is linking to youYour best bet would be to try and get a link on web page that is filled with content. Opposed to a web page filled with links only.
There are 2 reasons for this.
The first is that there will be a minimal amount of outgoing links on the web page.
The second is that the content page will be rated better as it will contain keywords in the content.
You will also be found much easier as you will one of the only links on the page. A good way of checking into this would be to see what web site your visitors are coming from if you are getting quite a few visitors from that site. I am willing to bet there are not many links on the web page that has your link on it.
TIP 4: Look into the type of links linking to the web page your link is on
Basically the more site owners of web pages linking to you that have off-page optimization the more weight that will be held on your link.
Trying to figure this out is near impossible. Your best bet would be to have a few people dedicated to this search or to build an automated process to send this information to you. Finding the off-page optimization for each site linking to you will take more time than you will have. I guarantee this.
TIP 5: Locate the IP addresses of all web pages linking to you
In the search engine eyes, links that come to you from the same IP address are not valued with much importance. This is an important thing to know. This is in place to keep web masters from pointing every web site they own to each other. Now,
it is not a bad to have a link or two with the same IP but it is more important to have most of your links coming from different IP addresses.
To locate an IP of a web page pointing to you, you may use this tool:
webrankinfo.com/english/tools/class-c-checker.php
Here you can enter from 2 to 10 links to check their IP address. Keep in mind that this process is extremely tedious once you get into checking a few hundred or thousand web pages to check..
Tip 6: How important does google value web site that is linking to you
This tip is one that most everyone does not even know about. Authority Web Sites are seen as most import by the search engines. Web pages that contain a gov at the end of their domain name are considered to be an authority web site.
There are a few other sites such as microsoft.com and adobe.com that have reached this status as well. You will find that most authority sites contain a ton of content and information.
If you are able to obtain a link from this type of site, it will have a huge impact on how your web page is considered. Any site containing a page rank of 7 and up would be assumed an authority site.
This brings us to a question? Is this time consuming process worth it?
The answer is simple. Yes. You will be much impress by taking the time needed to find targeted backlinks from web pages with great off-page optimization.
If you are looking for and automated solution to save all your time and provide even more useful help, there are a few products out there that will do the trick.
These products range from $167 - over $300.
All these programs will find all of the above information in minutes and offer other strategies to promote your web site.
From here you would use the other tools in the programs to quicken the time it takes to implement a link building process.
Ready. Aim. Fire!
You have not got the most valuable information that most outsiders do not even know about or use. Get started right away and be ready to see your web site listed higher in the search engines right away.

Search Engine Optimising
Modern advancement in science and technology has driven man into greater heights by making communication world wide easier and faster. The advent of the Internet has closed all possible boundaries which divide mankind and has revealed and made the exploration of the whole world and even the universe, within the frame of a desktop monitor, through a single mouse click.
People are constantly searching for things, places, images and information through search engines, which is the universal storage for all possible information that might be needed by the search engine user. The keywords used to search information in these store engines are of great interest as these words open up a whole arena of possible sites where the user can look up for whatever he searches for.
Including the possible keywords might optimise the web sites creditability to be viewed world wide through the browsers. The basic necessity for an effective search engine optimisingtechniques includes the knowledge of the browser. How does the browser work? As it involves the promotion of the web site, basic technical knowledge and familiarity with HTML is an added advantage to help optimise a web site.
After the right knowledge on the working of the search engine and other technical stuff, its time to do some research on the keywords to be used as they are the building blocks on which a web site’s success story will be inscribed. The keywords can be single or two to three keyword strings placed together. The placement of these words in the right place like the title of file, URL’s (website addresses), headings etc will enable a better result. Keyword density is the key factor in SEO, as more and more keywords placed in a document will reveal thebest result in the search engine.
Now that the search engine optimising is effectively included in the site, the next great job is to promote the URL. Including the URL in web directories and search engines and regular upgrading and checkup of the URL is needed as many search engines and directories delete the URL when there is no follow on or feedback. Whatever be the marketing technique your search engine optimised web site should be one among the top ranked sites in Google or Yahoo, or most probably other search engine providers. It is not necessary that only words be used for search engine optimising. Graphics, images and videos can also be provided.
Another wonderful way to promote the web site traffic is to opt for paid ads. Try including your company URL as ads in popular web sites and get noticed. There are also specialised search engines other than Google, MSN and Yahoo. These specific search engines are used for specific or for business purposes. Site promotion is such a hard- re job that can make or mar a company’s reputation. Thus several factors go into a making of an highly productive search engine optimised web site top ranked in the search engine to get the much needed attention of the user, who might search for a word only to be elevated to theposition of a client or customer.

How to Submit Your Site to Search Engines
Many years ago, when I was first learning about optimization and search engine submission, I looked everywhere on the Web for an easy tutorial that explained step-by-step how to submit a website to search engines and directories. I couldn’t find one and so I had to piece together the most successful process to use via trial and error.
Now there is such a huge amount of misinformation on the Web about search engine submission, I thought it was high time I wrote a basic tutorial to help webmasters sort fact from fiction.
Before You Begin
Before you can start to submit your site to search engines, you need to make sure it is ready for indexing. Use the following checklist to be absolutely sure your site is submission-ready:
- Are all pages complete? (No “under construction” pages)
- Are all links valid? (No broken or dead links)
- Are all pages optimized?
- Are all pages search engine compatible?
- Have you used Robots.txt or Robots META Tag to prevent pages you want hidden (e.g. shopping cart) from being indexed?
- If your site is an e-commerce site, is your ordering process or shopping cart functional and tested for bugs?
- Are you prepared to handle a sudden influx of traffic and/or sales?
- Have you tested your site for usability? (Google “web site usability” for more information)
To make your job of submitting easier, you also need to prepare a text file or spreadsheet listing the following:
- Your site’s main URL
- The URLs for other pages on your site that you will be submitting
- Your site’s Title (the name of your site you want listed in engines. This is usually your company name e.g. Atlanta City Tours or Acme Widgets)
- A short description of your page/site content (10-20 words)
- A long description of your page/site content (30-50 words)
- A list of target keywords for your page/site
- Name of submitter
- Email address of submitter (we suggest using a real account you check regularly, but one where you have strict controls over incoming spam email – you will receive some spam as a result of your submissions!)
- Address and contact details of your company (some directories ask for this)
It is particularly important to keep track of the email address you use when submitting your site, because some directories, like Yahoo for example, require you to cite this address if you want to make changes to your listing later on.
I like to use a text file created in Notepad for the above, but some people prefer to use a Word doc or a spreadsheet. It’s up to you. Remember to utilize your target search keywords as much as possible when creating your site descriptions.
Or you can use parts of your optimized Title and META tags, as long as you don’t go overboard stuffing keywords and making your site description spam-like.
The site submission information I might prepare for a fictional Miami florist would look something like this:
- www.funkyflorists.com (fictional URL for demonstration purposes only)
- www.funkyflorists.com/page1.htm, www.funkyflorists.com/page2.htm etc
- Funky Florists of Miami
- Florists in Miami, Florida creating wedding bouquets, floral arrangements, tributes and displays for gifts and special occasions. Online ordering available.
Funky Florists Miami create beautiful wedding bouquets, floral arrangements, tributes and displays for all occasions, including weddings, Valentines Day, parties and corporate events. We arrange florist deliveries throughout Miami and right across Florida. We are one of very few florists in Florida to offer a personal floral service, delivered anywhere, anytime. - Florists Miami, florists Florida, wedding bouquets, wedding flowers, wedding roses, Valentine’s Day roses, sympathy gifts, Mother’s Day gifts, funeral wreaths, flower deliveries, floral arrangements, birthday gifts, wedding decorations.
- Kalena Jordan
- webmaster@funkyflorists.com
- 12 Street Name
Town, Miami FL USA
Phone: (00) 555 55555
You should also create a spreadsheet or Word doc listing all the search engines you plan to submit your site to, their URLs, a comments field (for chosen categories etc) and a date column. Then as you submit to each site, you can check it off on your list, writing down the date submitted.
You could even create another date column for when your site appears in the search engine so you can gauge how long the submission took to become active. It’s important that you keep track of this information so that you don’t accidentally resubmit to a search engine or directory that you’ve already covered. If you are submitting to a search engine using a paid submission option, always make note of your receipt number in case you need to follow it up.
Happy submitting!

Search Engine Optimization Ideas that Work by Brenda Prevost
Search Engine Optimization Ideas that Work by Brenda Prevost
Ensuring your web site is SEO friendly is paramount to its success. There are many ways to achieve this. With a few simple techniques you can see your site raise in the search results without spending a fortune.
THINGS TO DO
After selecting your keywords, tags, description, etc. what else can you do to optimize your web site?
(1) Do a search for sites similar to yours using some site related keywords. Select a few of the top results in the search. Analyze their keywords and tags by selecting "view" in the drop down menu of your browser and then click on "source". There you will see what they've done to get such good placement.
(2) Using a keyword tool to see how your products or services are searched for and use those terms to describe what you sell. If done correctly, matching popular search terms with your goods or services will get you great search engine placement.
(3) Check all your links to make sure they work. Dead links are bad news for both search engines and converting traffic into sales.
(4) Submit to directories like DMOZ, Yahoo Business Directory, etc. Some charge a fee but their inclusion is a key factor in getting search engines to list you.
(5) Create a sitemap and submit it to the search engines. This ensures that no pages of your site will be missed when they crawl your site. There are free programs that can create the sitemap for you.
(6) If you write articles, be sure to publish them on your own site. Their keyword rich content increases your chances of being in their search engine results.
(7) Educate yourself through trade specific newsletters that discuss proper and effective SEO. They are an invaluable source for new ideas.
THINGS TO AVOID
(1) Don't use words like "of", "the", etc. in your keywords. Those are called "stop" words and not considered search engine friendly.
(2) Avoid using tables within your site whenever possible. While pleasing to the eye, search engines can't read them and they won't follow the text links or recognize the content.
(3) Make your content keyword rich, but don't go too far. Keyword "stuffing" can easily be detected and you'll loose valuable search engine placement or even be excluded.
(4) Linking campaigns are important. One way links are best but reciprocal links are acceptable as long as they are with similar sites. Try to link to sites with a page rank of 3 or better. Avoid 3 way links, web rings and links to sites that have nothing in common with yours.
Proper search engine optimization techniques are a large part of any web site's success. There are many companies available to do this for you but if you are on a small budget, using these search engine optimization ideas will reap big benefits.

How Important are META Tags?
Learn about META tags and the importance of them in SEO.
Meta tags don't matter. Meta tags aren't a magic SEO solution. Meta tags help determine how you rank in Google. Meta tags can affect the volume of incoming traffic to your website. You need Meta tags on every page of your website. You don't Meta tags on any page of your website but the main page.
Confused yet? Depending upon what you read about search engine optimization, Meta tags are either the be-all, end-all of good SEO practices, or an irrelevant exercise overshadowed by more important things, namely site content and link popularity. Over the years, the question of Meta tags has been discussed and debated by people in the SEO game, and in some cases sites have been taken to task to using certain words in Meta data not appropriate for the site's material. Whatever you choose to believe about Meta and such HTML tags, let it be clear that if you are going to implement such code on your site, it is best to do so correctly and in a way that will enhance rather than harm your site.
A quick survey of Meta tags
When one thinks of Meta tags, more than likely two types come to mind. In actuality, there are a number of Meta tags that may be applied to the code of a webpage. The more popular ones include: * KEYWORDS - A repository for placing keywords relevant to the website in one place, to allow search engines to find and therefore cache the site appropriately * DESCRIPTION - Working on the same principal of the KEYWORD tag, the DESCRIPTION tag allows the website owner to summarize the purpose of the site * ROBOTS - This tag gives instruction to the search engine spiders that visit the site, either allowing or forbidding them to cache the information on the page * COPYRIGHT - Affirms the ownership of the site, handy if copyrighted material is used * GENERATOR - Confirms the type of publishing tool used to create the page. HTML editors like Dreamweaver or FrontPage may automatically insert this tag when a new page is created * REVISIT - Instructs search engine spiders to visit the site at specific intervals, handy if you update often, though the validity of this tag has been debated
DESCRIPTION
For the website owner who wishes to keep specific information properly indexed, Meta tags can prove useful in that respect. From an SEO standpoint, it is argued that the most important of these tags is the DESCRIPTION tag, more so than KEYWORDS and ROBOTS. Among the major search engines, often the data used in the Meta DESCRIPTION tag is used as the site's description in search results.
Therefore, it is important to make sure that the content of this tag provides enough information in so many words to entice visitors to click-through. As search engines may truncate descriptions after so many characters or words, it is important to use this tag for a descriptive site summary without being too wordy.
Authors, in particular those with multiple books, may wish to use the DESCRIPTION tag to summarize the site in its entirety. Elements in the tag should definitely include name, the primary genre written, and what incentives the site offers - not just the books.
EXAMPLE ONE: Browse Jane Doe's site of award-winning mystery novels for sample chapters of her latest works, her personal writing diary, and a chance to win a free signed book.
EXAMPLE TWO: Mary Roe writes engaging historical romance. Read sample chapters of To Marry a Thief, her latest in the Regency London series, and sign up for Jane's free newsletter for contest and release information.
In the above samples the Meta description defines the purpose of each website. Each specifies the author and genre and offers calls to action - one to enter a free book giveaway and the other to opt-into a free newsletter with the promise of contest wins. Both emphasize the reading samples on the site, allowing visitors to try before they buy. In just two short sentences, the entire scope of each site is outlined, and this is what the search engines will pick up as they cache the site for further information.
Bottom line, be concise in your description tag and offer incentive for a user to click-through to your site.
KEYWORDS The debate over whether or not Meta keywords are important may rage for years to come. In the early days of SEO it was common practice to use this tag to repeat main keywords ad nauseam or "stuff" the tag with popular search phrases unrelated to the site's topic. As expected, search engines have become wise to such black hat practices and may even penalize a site for trying underhanded tricks to get top results. These days, SEO experts may advise novice webmasters to focus more on Meta description, site content, and organic inbound linking. At best, Meta keywords may serve as a guide for search engines to the the focus of your site.
Should you choose to use this tag, choose keywords that are most relevant to your site and content. The mystery author may use his/her name as a search point and other relevant terms: mystery novels, mystery books, mystery fiction, thrillers, detective stories, virginia authors, murder mysteries, and so forth. There is no set rule for minimum and maximum word counts in this tag - some websites rank high with three words in the Meta keyword tag, while others with 100 words may not do as well, and vice versa. Quality always trumps quantity where this tag is concerned.
Bottom line: relevance is key, but don't spend too much time on this tag. Save your energy for building a concise, user-friendly website. Once you have crafted the HTML code of your site, make sure what you have to offer visitors is relevant and useful, informative enough to inspire organic linkbacks. A good SEO balance can help bring the traffic, and sales.
